What is "somatic" birth?

Somatic birth, through preparation, practices, coaching, and doula support, helps pregnant individuals and families feel an embodied sense of safety during pregnancy and birth. By learning to sense and process emotions, regulate the nervous system, and embrace the full range of human feelings, we build resilience and confidence for birth and early parenthood. Somatic birth education reconnects us with parts of ourselves we may have neglected, allowing us to meet the challenges and joys of childbearing with strength and authenticity. It also means unlearning historical, cultural, and social conditioning that shapes modern birthing culture, including the biases within the medical system. Understanding this context encourages us to trust our own embodied truth, reducing vulnerability to harm. At its heart, Somatic Birth invites a return to a natural state of being during the childbearing years, tuning our bodies for sensitivity and presence, so we can make decisions that truly align with who we are. When we trust our bodies’ wisdom as our greatest authority, it becomes the ultimate source of knowing.
